The mentoring children of prisoners (MCP) movement received great news
this fall with the announcement of $11.2 million dollars of new funding
from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Only 44 of
the 242 HHS-funded MCP programs currently operating are first-time MCP
grantees. Now that most agencies have been running such programs for
at least two years, they are realizing the importance of collaboration,
especially in instances where there are multiple MCP programs in the
